Chapter five

Lost Temper

At some point it was morning. Or at least Jack thought it was morning, he wasn't exactly sure. The capsule made everything seem like night. Or it would if the damn lantern wasn't always shining.

It was a new day, in theory, he Should get out of bed and get about his day. He could not get himself to wake up. Jack was pale and covered in sweat. There was nothing to be done about being sick except rest. He had slept so poorly that he hadn't redeemed his current quest.

He stumbled out of bed. Bringing his vomit-soaked straightjacket with him. The smell was nauseous and did not help with feeling comfortable. He staggered into the washroom. Drank some water. Did his business. Somehow he managed to climb back into his capsule. This time sleep came to him effortlessly. Jack managed to get some sleep. He woke up in the morning feeling like shit in the hangover sort of way. Which was considerably better than how he felt in the night.

He felt wretched. The thought of doing anything filled him with dread. He lay there in bed for a very long time till a maid walked in to clean the room and jumped when he rolled over.

"Oh dear' she said.

She left and came back a moment later with someone wearing white slacks.

"Mister Jack, you seem to be ill. At the insanely good time hostel, we pride ourselves on our excellent service. This won't do, this won't do at all.”

Jack was only half conscious as he saw the nurse put on a glove and pull out a needle. Somewhat delirious in an insane asylum Jack trashed around at the sight of someone about to drug him. He had nightmares about this and he still wasn't convinced he wasn't in a nightmare.

His protests were shortlived as the nurse inserted the needle into his arm. He felt a short prick, less painful than the mosquito bites. He doesn't remember the rest as he fell asleep.

When Jack awoke again. He felt much better and felt rested. He wasn't at 100% but he could function. He left his capsules to see that the sun was setting. He had slept all day.

He looked at the status of his quest.

He had made 3 friends : ⅔ Complete

Tried 5 different drinks: Complete

Get a good night rest: Incomplete.

Hilarious. I slept last night but badly so it doesn't count for the quest I slept all day but well but since it's not night it doesn't count for the quest. He was too wide awake to believe he would be able to fall asleep right this moment.

Jack felt the rage bubble underneath the surface. What was he doing? So far all he had been doing since arriving in Veltra was being reactive. He had the task of having the best trip ever. He rolled his eyes as he thought about it.

Jack had nightmares at the thought of staying here another night. As long as the stupid mosquitoes existed he didn't know how he would manage.
